DARTMOUTH — Ryan Sylvia no longer calls the shots on the football field. He now leads from behind the scenes.
The former Old Rochester star quarterback hung up his cleats in 2004 after a brilliant career at Springfield College, where he finished second all-time in rushing yards with 3,064.
With his playing days behind him, Sylvia set out to find a job that would incorporate his leadership qualities and passion for sports. He found exactly what he was looking for at Bishop Stang.
Earlier this summer, Sylvia was hired to replace Peter Shaughnessy, who was promoted to principal after one year as the school's athletic director.
"Being in a leadership role is definitely something I enjoy," said Sylvia, a New Bedford native. "A professional goal of mine has been to be an administrator and be in a leadership role. I kind of thrive on that type of position.
