Bishop Stang has its A.D. of future in Ryan Sylvia

DARTMOUTH — Ryan Sylvia no longer calls the shots on the football field. He now leads from behind the scenes.

The former Old Rochester star quarterback hung up his cleats in 2004 after a brilliant career at Springfield College, where he finished second all-time in rushing yards with 3,064.

With his playing days behind him, Sylvia set out to find a job that would incorporate his leadership qualities and passion for sports. He found exactly what he was looking for at Bishop Stang.

FALL RIVER

One day medical staff worked to save a child with internal worms so severe the worms could be seen moving under the child’s skin.

The next day they were in another village where the children gathered to sing Happy Birthday, in English and Swahili, celebrating with Elizabeth Rockett on the day she turned 17.

And on Monday Kathy Crosson lined up 42 suitcases in the backyard of her Highlands home to wash them with her garden hose so they will be ready for next year.

“It was so wonderful and so intense,” Crosson said. “There is so much need."
